Why STEM?

BE PART OF STEM!

WHY INCOMING SHS STUDENTS MUST CHOOSE STEM TRACK?

I’m more prefer S.T.E.M as my track which I’ll give focus for 2 years, why? first, availability, since I am currently studying at Bato School of Fisheries where STEM track is open for all students, not all tracks and strands will be offered by schools in your area. You should check the available options first. Try to inquire too if the schools are well equipped.

Second is my college plans, I ask myself first what course am I planning to take?Well, why I choose STEM track because I want to become an engineer someday in which this track can helps me know more skills and knowledge about engineering.

The STEM Strand will prepare SHS students for a science-related course in college by deepening the concepts in Math and Science through lessons in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Calculus. The STEM strand aims to inculcate in students various theories and concepts in Science and Mathematics. The CKC-SHS STEM curriculum integrates the proper utilization of technology in specific subject areas to make learning engaging and interesting.

Specialization subjects for STEM strand include Pre-Calculus, Basic Calculus, General Chemistry 1 and 2, General Physics 1 and 2, and General Biology 1 and 2, Work Immersion/Research/Career Advocacy/Culminating Activity. The focus of the curriculum is to provide practical learning experiences in order for students to understand the concepts better through application, controlled experiments, research and practice.

Senior High School (SHS) students opting to take the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Strand have a set of core subjects slightly different from those taking the other strands (Accountancy, Business, and Management; and Humanities and Social Science).

While students in the other strands take “Earth and Life Science” and “Physical Science,” STEM students take “Earth Science” and “Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction.” STEM students are presumed to be more literate in science and, therefore, capable of tackling more advanced science subjects. The teaching of calculus in SHS is a simple illustration of the reason the old (that is, current) General Education Curriculum (GEC) subjects are no longer relevant to university students. In the old GEC, for example, Algebra is a required subject. Clearly, to take Algebra after you have mastered Basic Calculus is patently silly. Similarly, the two introductory subjects in the old GEC on Natural Sciences are also no longer necessary, since STEM students will have had specialized subjects in biology, physics, and chemistry.

Being on the STEM track can help you get into careers that require reasoning and problem solving using math, science or technology knowledge. STEM students are exposed to science and, therefore, capable of tackling more advanced science subjects. Quantum physics? They can walk you through it. Ruby on Rails? HTML? Java Script? They know those like the back of their hands. With STEM focusing on sciences like Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, this strand is also perfect for those who wish to become a doctor or a nurse. With STEM focusing on sciences like Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, this strand is perfect for those who wish to become a doctor or a nurse. And if more students take the STEM Strand, we shall have not only more scientists but also more science teachers. Ultimately, the country will be scientifically literate.

Enrolling at CKC SHS means benefitting from the legacy of hundred years of quality Catholic education; it means enjoying its excellent facilities composed of multimedia rooms, and modern laboratories; & it means being part of a loving community that celebrates its life and faith through the Almighty Father.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? CHOOSE STEM FOR BETTER CAREER AND PROFESSION THAT IS COMMONLY DREAM TO EVERYONE.
